Wait, what?

Where to start?

How about this:

crying-baby-272x300.jpg
Friday: 9-0 Indians

Saturday: 10-3 Indians

Sunday: 12-3 Indians.

Not only was I out of town this past weekend, enjoying whatever was left of the adrenaline I had from the Tigers vs Mariners game, but I was kind of in denial of what was happening to the Mariners. Of course I checked mlb.com on my crackberry but not often to say the least.

What the heck happened? Where did all that drive from winning the Tigers series go? Do you guys constantly need me to be your good luck charm?

I guess we are absolutely pathetic, considering we lost to the Indians who are 41-58 with a .414 PCT and 12 games behind in the AL Central. Apparently the Mariners want to be just like them because that’s the direction we’re headed.

Pretty fast too.

I would name the pitchers that lost those games, but lucky for them, there are too many so I won’t even bother. Sure, the Indians didn’t face our aces but that’s absolutely no excuse for that sort of poor performance.

Actually let me say something about one of them. Erik Bedard. Going on the DL, AGAIN? Not only has he hurt the Mariners more than helped, after he came from the Orioles, his two digit win seasons has long disappeared and he remains mediocre. Sure, he’ll be gone for 15 days (which is never truly 15 days), he’ll come back and pitch one great game, then pitch a horrendous one the next, and guess what? Right back on the DL. Why they would keep him is beyond me but hey, afterall I’m just a hardcore fan.

What I can barely smirk about in this depressing time is that I was glad Abreu and Wedge got ejected from the game. Jakubauskas beaned Francisco yes, but watching Jakubauskas pitch, anyone could tell he wasn’t doing it on purpose. Let me be the first one to say Jakubauskas (good god his name is long!) was horrible! His balls were going everywhere and had absolutely no control! He gave up 6 runs for godssake, did Abreu really think it was appropriate to hit Hannahan? Couldn’t he just find solace in knowing they swept the Mariners and achieved their goal of getting back at us from a couple weeks ago?

Sheesh.

Trade Talk:

     medium_Russell-Branyan.jpg
washburn.jpg

There’s been talk about these two as the trading deadline creeps up on us. They’re both free agents after this season and they’re definitely going to be asking for (and deserving of) a better contract. Both of them are having great seasons, Washburn with an ERA of 2.71, one of the more stable pitchers we have, and Branyan is having the best season in his career.

I think we need to keep both of them.

Yes, Washburn is a little unstable at times, but look at our other pitchers! (Except for our mighty King Felix, of course :]).

And as far as Branyan goes; we really didn’t get what we wanted from Griffey batting cleanup, and now that we know Branyan can actually utilize those guns of his…..let’s keep him!

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Starting tonight, we have a 3 game series against the Toronto Blue Jays! Wednesday we get to experience the wrath of the Roy Halladay. Aaaaand who do we put forth to compete against him? Rowland-Smith.

GREAT…

Toodles!

Batting practice, anyone?

I’ve been ecstatic about the Mariners coming into town (Mo-town) and being able to watch them on FSN Detroit and of course being able to attend a game (tonight!) but boy was I disappointed within the first hour….no, first 30 minutes of the game.

t1-ordonez.jpg
Oh, I don’t know, I thought maybe the Indians game taught Olson a lesson or two but he just couldn’t keep his balls down. His fastball was too high and his curveball wasn’t, well, curving.

It was the cherry on top of this crappy pitching sundae when the somewhat struggling Ordonez crushed the ball for a grand salami in the bottom 1st with 0 outs. I went from pale (the second Ordonez swung) to raging red (when the bases cleared)…..

….gosh so stressful!

But did it end there? Oh heeeeeeeeeeeeeck no. (Ugh!)

Olson left the mound putting the Mariners in the hole after a mere 1.1 innings and yet gave up 7 runs.

And what better idea than to bring in Jakubauskas, the same pitcher they brought in after Olson last time they lost?

Jakubauskas gave up 3 hits, 1 run and injured Gutierrez. Gutierrez slammed into the back of CF and was rolling on the floor in agony. Apparently it’s too far from the pitching mound to the back of CF because Jakubauskas didn’t walk over to Gutierrez when he was down on the floor for a good 15 minutes while Ichiro, Lopez and Cedeno ran over to him immediately. He was trying to catch a ball that YOU let out that far and all you do is stand on the mound and scratch your head? Shame on you

I give ♥props♥ to the Tigers fans though, because when Gutierrez finally got up and was assisted back to the dugout, they gave him a standing ovation. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy. Thanks Tigers fans! Apparently it turned out to be a slight concussion, bruised knee and arm so I’m glad it wasn’t anything serious. We love Gutierrez.

DISAPPOINTMENT.jpg

Jakubauskas ended up calming down a little bit and after the first 2 innings, our pitchers ended up only giving up 1 run (to Cabrera) but that didn’t mean it wasn’t disappointing.

As far as offense, I give them so much kudos because I went from hopeless to hopeful throughout the whole game. Even though we lost, we made the Tigers pretty nervous by inching closer almost every inning. Hannahan had two solo homers, Langerhans had a 2 run homer (with excellent defense!), Balentein had a homer, Ichiro had a hit and a run (is that even a surprise anymore?), Lopez went 3 for 5 with an RBI….

…sigh, four homeruns and that didn’t cut it. :[

arby.jpgThanks to and on behalf of Olson and the rest of the pitching staff, Tigers fans can enjoy a free Arby’s roast beef sandwhich since they gave up 3 homeruns to the Tigers! Enjoy that, Tiger fans! I could technically get a free sandwhich but there’s no way I’m eating a roast beef sandwich covered with yummy horsey sauce and guilt!!!!

With all that said, I’m hoping tonight’s game between Felix and Gallaraga will be better. I had posted that it was Felix vs.Verlander, but apparently Leyland is saving their aces for the four game series against the White Sox that’s coming up. Gallaraga is going into the game with a 5.09 ERA while Felix enters with an amazing 2.41. It’s almost a given that we’d win….

….at least we should.

….but you never know in baseball! That’s the beauty of it though, isn’t it?

Plus I’m going to the game tonight so I should be all the luck they need! ♥ I told my boyfriend he should probably drive because I don’t want to risk any mean person to ruin this beauty:

[Yup, that’s my car.]

I’ve got my Johjima shirt, M’s cap, blue and green face paint and drinking plenty of fluids here at work so my throat will survive all the cheering (or yelling, hehe!) so I think I’m good to go! ♥

Tomorrow’s entry should be full of fun pictures and hopefully happy news! :]

Toodles,

P.S It was so fun and exciting to be quoted on the MLB website! My Dad and Grandpa would be proud! :]

We like ’em four gamers.

….against the Indians, that is. ♥

Even though the first game after the All-Star break was a little disturbing; 1-4 Indians, I would have been ok with it if I knew this was going to happen:

7/17: 6-2 Mariners

7/18: 3-1 Mariners

7/19: 5-3 Mariners

It started and continued with this:

2009054218.jpg

Gutierrez had 4 hits in the past 3 winning games raising his average to a .295. This man can hit, score runs and play catch! We love him!

Hmm, reminds me of someone else…..

ichiro.jpg

Although Ichiro had a mini-slump on Saturday going 0-2, he jumped right back hitting 3-4 contributing 2 runs to the final score. I didn’t get a chance to watch Web Gems last night but he should have been in the top 3 after the way he ended yesterday’s game!

He pulled a ‘Crawford’ (think All-Star game) climbing the wall robbing a potentially hazardous hit in the 9th inning to end the game.

Seattleites don’t call him “Ninja” for no reason. :]

Next series:

Drum rolls please….

tigers.jpg

The leader of the AL Central with a record of 48-42 with a .533 %. For some reason I thought they had a better record but I’m sure it’s because of all my colleagues here in Detroit that over-exaggerate how great they are. [I’m sure writing that will kick me in the booty later]. The Mariners have almost an identical record with 49-43 with a .533 %.

This should be an interesting series in general, but for me it’s going to get personal. :]  Here in Tiger-territory/Wings-ville/Piston-town/whatever…, I am the enemy starting tomorrow. My desk is decorated with Mariners paraphernalia on top of all the M’s talk and AL West pride I’ve been infamously spreading around my work area.

The BEST part of this whole thing is that I’m going to my first Mariners V.S Tigers game at Comerica Park this Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot frickin’ wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m going all-out Mariners gear and I’m thinking about some face-painting too. It’s my first away-Mariners game so I’m more than excited to be the minority fan! Plus my boyfriend was nice enough to buy me tickets that are 5 rows away from the visitor’s dugout so I’ll definitely be on FSN NW :]

I told my awesome Grandpa to TiVo it…..

…….but I should have known he would reply, “What’s a dee-bo? Do you want me to tape it for you?” :]

The best part of going on Wednesday is that according to the lineups, it should be Felix Hernandez v.s Justin Verlander. Both a 10-game winner but Felix has a 2.51 ERA while Verly has a 3.34. Now this is definitely going to be an amazing pitcher’s duel.

……….or the Mariners will inevitably whoop-*ss.

:]

Be careful what you wish for….

olson.jpgSo I totally take back what I said a few entries ago. All I wanted was Brandon-should-go-to-Tacoma-toMorrow to be placed with the RPs instead of Olson when they were looking to kick someone out of the SP line up when Bedard was back.

God I take that back!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night Olson was chased out of the game after a mere 2 2/3 innings by the Cleveland Indians. He gave up 3 runs out of 4 that were scored. Surprisingly our RPs were pretty good last night but Cliff Lee was better than all of our pitchers combined. The only person that was able to feast on Lee’s pitches were Johjima (yay Joh’s back! :]) who went 3-4. No one was able to help that poor man!

Who has 9 hits and only scores 1 run?

………the Mariners…….

Boo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What good thing can I possibly say about the Mariners at this point in time?

..uuuum, Ichiro is well on his way to hitting 200 hits again this year?

Yeah that works

Crossing my fingers for better results tonight, M’s!

Toodles,
