Major League Studlies ♥

Now that I’m done moving out of my apartment for the most part (I’m living with my boyfriend till this weekend when I really leave Michigan for good), and Ichiro has reached his 200+ hit and all that the Mariners are doing now are playing the spoiler role (really well, if I say so myself), there’s so much wiggle room in my personal life and topics I can write on.

diamonds_thumb.jpg
Then I remembered a guy commenting on one of my first entries ever. With the support of other bloggers (you know who you are), he was reported and blocked from commenting on any MLBlog ever from that point on…but anyway, I was thinking about what he had said. He was talking about (all in capslock) how I was writing this blog to get male attention, how I didn’t know smack about baseball, how females should never talk about baseball because we’ll never understand it as well as males do, how females only love baseball because of the tight uniforms and the players….

….and so I dedicate this entry to that guy.

n1297590026_30028172_284_thumb.jpgI think it’s ridiculous that he thinks I can’t talk baseball, but mostly because he was such a sexist oink-oink. Sure, the ratio of men to women that can straight talk baseball or fill in a score-card properly is unbalanced but look at this blogosphere, what a great example! There are a lot of ladies that write fantastic blogs that can talk baseball for days and discuss stats with the best of ’em. ilove_thumb.jpg

Another thing. I don’t think it’s unprofessional at all that the ladies like what they’re looking at. Puh-lease! You can’t tell me that guys watch beach volleyball or football or basketball or tennis without checking out the athletes or the cheerleaders! So for anyone to tell me that I can’t appreciate eye-candy when I see one? Boy, just build a bridge and get over it because I see it as just another way to appreciate the game of baseball aside from the stats, competition and pride for your team.

th_baseball_thumb.jpgAnd last but not least? Trust me when I say I don’t watch 160-something games or learn the athletes names or keep up with stats or waste money on over-priced garlic fries and stadium seats just for male attention. You know why I say that? It’s because I’ve actually scared more than a few guys off with my baseball knowledge. Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s definitely not attracting male attention.

So that’s all the ranting from me…and now on to the good stuff (that’ll make that guy want to jump off a cliff). This is a compilation (in no specific order) of what I call : “My FHH List” [FHH=Future Husband Hopefuls]

1. David Wright (New York Mets)

Ichiro robs Royalty

PowerIcons_FalseAlarm.jpg          Ok so a little bit of a false alarm. I didn’t think I was going to have any easy access to internet let alone from my own laptop but turns out my host has wireless internet and the first thing I thought?

Sweet, I can blog during down-time

So here I am in beautiful Portland, Oregon. I have jetlag of +3 hours so I was wide awake on my vacation at 6:30am. Unfortunate but this gives me time to blog while my host sleeps in so it’s a wonderful thing! :]

I know this is off-topic but my flight from Detroit to Portland was hell. I had a great window-seat exit row but had an extremely obese woman sitting next to me and her muffin top was spilling over the arm-rest and into my seat. Not only that but she kept wanting to look outside the window and mercilessly leaned over me to do so. Couldn’t breathe! Although I’m used to flying 9+ hours on a plane back and forth from Tokyo to Seattle, this flight of a mere 4 hours seemed never ending. I’m sure you guys have had horrible flight experiences. Just thought I’d share.

Back to baseball.

The most amazing thing that happened to me yesterday apart from the fact that I’m back home and spent the whole day with best friends, it was when I was scrolling down the comcast remote and when I selected “MLB Baseball“, it was the Mariners vs Royals game. Wow, how nice is it to be able to watch your favorite team on TV without having to log into GameDay or paying for MLB Extra Innings? Wow I’m going to be so spoiled for the next month. Sounds ridiculous I’m sure. :]

I didn’t watch the entire game; I actually started watching in the top 4th and the Mariners were down by 1. Rowland-Smith was our SP and definitely didn’t do a repeat on his last start where he went hitless for 6 innings. He struggled by giving up 5 runs within the first 4 innings and he was done. As I’ve mentioned before, the Mariners relief pitchers make me extremely nervous but Kelley, Batista and Lowe did a great job. Kelley gave up the 6th run to the Royals but ended up with the win. Aardsma came out to close the game and succeeded despite loading the bases for himself.

He had a little help from Ichiro. He blasted a homerun in the first inning, went 2 for 5 with 3 runs, but the biggest oomf that saved the Mariners was this…….

mlbf_5925095_th_13.jpg

In the bottom 9th with 2 outs bases loaded, Buck hit a slicing foul ball towards right field, right in the corner where absolutely no one but Ichiro could see. It was quite a long dash for Ichiro but as soon as the ball dropped, we saw a blow of dust and a glove rising from the corner. Ichiro had caught that insanely difficult catch and rescued Aardsma from a blown save. Ichiro isn’t an 8 time Gold Glover for no reason, huh? I wonder if he was on the Web Gems last night? He should’ve! He’s amazing!

We definitely can’t forget the man that gave the Mariners the one run lead which ended up to be the only one we needed.

pBtVv2Ku.jpgRussell Branyan! He’s been in a little slump as of late but turned that around for himself and for the team last night. Branyan hit a line drive between Butler and Callaspo scoring Jack Wilson. Branyan went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Good job, Russ! :]

Kansas%20City%20Royals%2000003.jpgAs far as watching the game (on TV, yay!), it’s always been so fun to watch the Mariners take on the Royals because of all the former Mariners players that they’ve acquired throughout the years.

Gil Meche*
Yuniesky Betancourt*
Willie Bloomquist*
Jose Guillen
Miguel Olivo

They were all great players for the Mariners and it’s always so nice to see their smiling faces. Not only that, but Olivo and Yuni both went 2 for 4 last night scoring half the runs that the Royals produced.

Miss you boys! So much!

With all that said, I’m happy I managed to write up an entry this morning. Busy day ahead but turns out my friends are having a party for me at Buffalo Wild Wings where they have TVs in every corner, and at 4pm which is exactly when the Mariners start.

Am I completely ridiculous and horrible for thinking that?

Toodles!

xoxo

*=Missed the most by me. Hehe. ♥

Grabbing the white flag

white_flag.jpg        Oh boy, the time has come to crawl out of my fantasy world where I’m determined that the Mariners still have a shot at winning at least the Wild Card race.

I know that sounds completely ridiculous but I’m sure everyone knows the feeling of purposely being a teeny tiny bit ignorant about watching your favorite team fall out of contention.

So here I am, finally (and forcefully) waving the white flag. When the Mariners traded away Jarrod Washburn, that was pretty much the GM waving the flag but me being stubborn, I knowingly ignored that. Oh to find out your team has become a “seller”.

How lovely.

Mariners, you broke my heart again!

2248457256_cc2925a2d1.jpgThank your lucky stars I’m going on vacation so I don’t have too much time to sulk and be depressed. However, I will be back in Seattle for vacation so you guys had better be ready for some Diamond Girl power at Safeco Field. ♥  I’m so excited I can actually watch the Mariners on FSN every game!

                                       ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

What really forced me to admit to the team becoming a seller was the four game series against the big, bad Texas Rangers. It was a four game series and after the 3rd game I thought maybe we can at least tie the game but that didn’t happen.

3189854372_57aa8a122c.jpgThis is the result of the series:

7/30: 1-7 Rangers

7/31: 4-5 Rangers

8/1: 7-2 Mariners

8/2: 2-4 Rangers

I guess I can find solace in knowing we didn’t get swept but losing 3 games is kind of a sweep.

It’s hard to criticize the Rangers, 1. because they’re better than the Mariners and 2. because I’ve always liked the Rangers. I don’t know what it is about them (yes, apart from the fact that I ♥ Kinsler, Hamilton and Saltalamacchia :]) but I always find myself cheering them on when the Wild Card rankings really start to matter (they always start showing the wild card rankings right after the All Star game…too soon!).

For the fourth game, Snell, our newest member from the Pittsburgh Pirates made his first start as a Mariner
large_ian%20snell.jpgConsidering his win-loss ratio from when he was a Pirate and the fact that he was playing against the Texas Rangers, I suppose his performance was fairly solid. He gave up 2 runs which were both homers and struck out 4.

Meh.

Personally, I’m not quite sure if I was satisfied or not. I mean, he’s better than Olson (most are, and please don’t get me started on Olson. I’m highly irate and dangerous when I hear his name) but my expectations were probably set too high for him. I think he did well against the Rangers, it was just a tough loss that night and it wasn’t his fault. Again, our RPs messed it up. Thanks to White, we threw away what could have been a tied series against our arch nemesis.

The 3rd game was very nice. Felix got his 12th win despite his struggle. Jose Lopez and Ken Griffey Jr. both went 3 for 5. When Felix pitches, Lopez averages a .338 with 8 doubles, 5 homers and 18 RBIs.

Felix and Lopez = BFFs.  :]

Adorable. ♥

seattle-mariners-ichiro-nc.jpgHow can I forget Ichiro? Although he went 0 for 4 in the first game of the series (wow!), he had at least 2 hits a game for the rest of the series. With his batting average, I feel it’s the best decision to put a higher average player to bat 9th. I’m guessing that would help produce more runs for the team. That seems pretty obvious but perhaps I’m too naiive.

Ichiro is also well on his way to 200+ hits for 10 seasons in a row.

Wow.

What an amazing feat.

Just like President Obama told Ichiro that made him giggle like a kid, he’s a future Hall of Famer for sure. It won’t be anytime soon since there’s apparently no slowing down for #51 but in the years to come, I’m excited to see him inching closer to his entrance to Cooperstown.  ♥

So the next three series are against the Kansas City Royals. Unfortunately we won’t be facing the amazing Zack Greinke or Gil Meche (I believe he’s on the DL) but I’m crossing my fingers that I get to see the Royals in their baby blue uniform that makes them look like softies (see below). Note, I’m not making fun of that, I actually ♥ it. I like the Royals, mostly because there are a few former Mariners so I’ll be able to enjoy watching the game without getting livid and/or stressed out. Hehe. :]

On a personal note, I’m going on vacation and leaving Mo-Town tomorrow morning for Portland, Oregon and then to my second home-sweet-home, Seattle, Washington. For the next week while I’m in Portland I highly doubt I’ll be blogging at all but once I’m home in Seattle, I’ll be back. :]

kauai-luxury-vacation-rental.jpg  Wait, the Pacific Northwest doesn’t look like that. More like this:

Community%20copy.jpgTill I’m back, best of luck to all your teams!
