Post Season Mariners Update 2

How dare I get numb to the notion of a cold, baseball-less season?

I have such amazing news about the Mariners….

….which I’m sure everybody and their brothers know about already but what the hey.

No exciting build-ups, no beating around the bush….

url-757394.jpgCan I just say, WOW? I knew we had plenty of money this off-season to acquire some great players but Cliff Lee? I’m almost overwhelmed by the news. Lee rocked the World Series beating the Yankees not only once, but twice, and not only that, but Lee has a 5-1 3.49 ERA at Safeco Field! This Cy Young winning southpaw with a Cy Young contender (Felix, of course), both backed up by one of the league’s best defense, we are going to have a vicious starting rotation.

Watch out AL West, we’re gonna take all of you down.

chone-figgins.jpgOh and to put the cherry on top of this wonderful Mariners sundae, we acquired Chone Figgins (he’ll be sporting a No.9 jersey) last week from the Angels. He is the guy I always get nervous about when we play the Angels…gosh, not having to worry about him is going to be awesome. Figgins signed a four year, $36 million deal with a vesting option for 2014. Figgins was a third baseman for the Angels which brings up the question as to where he’ll be defending next season if Beltre chooses to stay. Personally, I think he would own second base but I would hate to have to see Lopez benched for that. As far as I’m concerned, the only spot available right now is left field and with his third baseman arm, I figure he would excel. With his above-average batting and last year’s career high runs and doubles, I have no doubt he’ll be sending Ichiro home more often than not.

Our starting lineup will consist of Ichiro batting first (duh), Figgins, Lopez/Gutierrez, Branyan (still crossing my fingers for that one)….

…and of course our deathly pitching rotation.

Fellow Mariners fans, my baseball itch is worsening as we speak! The 2010 season is going to be…enthralling, captivating, engrossing, and riveting; I can hardly wait!

Now for all non-Mariners fans, you should probably be afraid.

Very much afraid.

I end with an evil laugh.

The Mariners also seem to be one of the teams vying for Jason Bay. If they are able to sign Bay and re-sign Branyan I think that the West will belong to Seattle. If they can’t get those guys they will have some issues with a lack of power but they will still be a lot of fun to watch and I still think that they would be able to squeak by the Angels. I can’t wait to watch Figgins play against his former team.

I pick the Mariners to make a big run for the AL West this year. Wow. Getting Cliff Lee was huge! And Figgins should really compliment Ichiro and drive opposing pitchers nuts with his running game. Are you sure you don’t want to part with King Felix? LOL.

The M’s acquistions for 2010 look prime; all they need is a big bat in LF…J-Bay anyone? That will be quite the coup after a reasonably successful offseason, signage-wise. Lefty Lee will certainly bolster a starting rotation that already contains King Felix. I think I may have to take a trip to Seattle to check out this awesome squad next year…!

Afraid of the Mariners? Nah πŸ™‚ Milton Bradley will be continuing what he did last year for you guys on the west coast. Expect opposing teams to get extra bases due to his lack of basic math skills … Lee and King Felix? There’s a 1-2 punch the likes of which haven’t been seen since Clemens/Hentgen … Johnson/Schilling … Schilling/Martinez … Hopefully the M’s can overtake the Halo’s for the divisional crown. I’d love to see you guys back in the spotlight where you belong!

ohhh the horror! lol just kidding! Figgy leaving to Seattle is just so sad for me and other angel fans. He was definitely a family favorite! Seattle is busy busy busy makes me jealous that the only move the Angels have made was getting an aging Matsui. However I look forward to the competition the Seattle Mariners will bring for west never gets much attention anyways. We’re not a weak division and we’ll prove it next year! πŸ™‚ I have to say as a fellow female asian I admire your love and knowledge of the game!

Your pitching rotation actually is so scary! Not only are the starters extremely talented, but your bullpen was decent last year and can only get better. Good luck to the Mariners this year, I think they have a really good season ahead of them.

    Cliff Lee and Felix Hernandez.
I can not even imagine what terror those two names can present for a three game series with each throwing a game.
Could be the right time to be an M’s fan.
I am sure going to watch the AL West scoreboards a lot in 2010.
That division is going to be a cat fight all year long.
