I know that wasn’t the world’s most creative entry title, but it explains everything, no?
I had to go to bed fairly early last night since today is my moving day (yes, I’m moving back to Seattle! Yay!) and I had to get an early start. Thus, I couldn’t watch the game whatsoever and in my mind I had decided that if the Mariners had lost against the Yankees, I wouldn’t write an entry. I mean hello, what better excuse is there to not write a non-victorious entry against the Yankees than to say, “I was too busy emptying my fully furnished apartment.”?
Yet I woke up this morning bright and early at 6AM and things were not according to plan. Yes, I would love it if the Mariners would win but I already had plans on boycotting this blog during my move for a couple days.
The first thing I did was click on my Blackberry’s Seattle Mariners Application to see how brutal the Yankees were on Felix and my boys.
3-2 Mariners VICTORIOUS?
Wait, what? When? Who? Why? How?
Not to say I didn’t have hope in my boys but it’s the Yankees, people.
I immediately ran out to the living room where my boyfriend was already awake and he says, “Did you check your M’s app? Ichiro had a walk-off.”
So I replied, “No, that was two nights ago.”
He said, “Do you think I’m stupid? I know that, but he had a walk-off homer last night against Rivera.”
WHAT! So we DID win and against the Yankees! Against Rivera no less!
I’M NOT DREAMING!!!!!!!! My hometown-homie (aka Ichiro…my boyfriend hates it when I call him that and as un-PC as it may sound, I say it because we’re both Japanese, born and raised.)
Anyway, bottom 9th, 2 outs, man on second base (thanks to Sweeney’s double!), Ichiro at bat, Rivera pitching his usual mean balls and…..
A 2 run homer to win the game 3-2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 nights in a row, Ichiro wins the game with a walk-off (only his 3rd in the MLB career! Surprising, huh?)
Plus Felix got his career high 16th win!
I tend to use the adjective “amazing” repetitively to the point that it’s annoying but I can’t find any other words that describe Ichiro and what great things he does for the team and fans. “Amazing” sounds like such an understatement. Great? Phenomenal? Unbelievable?
If you missed it, check this video out.
Who gets a walk-off against Rivera? Not very many people, that’s for sure. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.
Unpredictable. That’s baseball for ya.
